About Us ::: Bernd Kroemer
Bernd Kroemer
Windhoek Moto Cross Club PRO Bernd Kroemer was born and raised on 9th of May 1948 in Zweibrücken/Germany. His father Walter Kroemer was an active Rallyecar-Driver so it was quite obvious that son Bernd somehow would follow those footsteps.
It happened, but detrimend to expectations Bernd loved the Dirt. At the age of 9 years he was an ardent follower of Speedway and Longtrack racing, specifically the sidecar-bikes interested him. Later he had his first "Speed-kick" as jockey in the sidecar of Hermann Bernhard one of Germany's fastest sidecar racer on a BMW 750cc and later on a ESO 500cc.
When he met wife Erika he had to choose "Me or racing!!!!" He has chosen Erika and are still together. After finishing the German Army he started with Rallye racing as navigator for the famous Ford-Mohrbach Team. Later he sat himself behind the wheel and won some fine results, before he found his way back to the "Oval" this time as Stock-Car racer. He made himself a good name all over Southwest Germany.
Early, at the tender age of 10, he noticed his talent as motorsport-reporter. He became the youngest freelance writer ever for the "Pfälzischer Merkur" paper and the daily "Rheinpfalz" paper, covering specifically Speedway, Longtrack and Stock-Car racing.
When Bernd emigrated to South Africa in 1974 he soon had contact to the SA Speedway scene that was the time when he met famous promoters Buddy Fuller and Peter Murray (now also involved in Moto Cross). Now he reportet for Europe's biggest monthly Speedway magazin "Bahnsport Aktuell" in Germany, but also occasionally or the "Speedway Star" in England about the activities in South Africa.
In 1987 he imigrated to Namibia. Due to the fact that there was no Speedway, he soon choose the second-best, Moto Cross that was. From day one he submitted articles to "MCE-aktuell" europes biggest monthly in MX-Racing.
At that time MX racing in Namibia was very big by enthusiasm, but very small regards sponsorships etc. There Bernd found a wide field to plough and invest all the know-how from his time in Germany. He organised sponsors and regularly reportet about the activities in all Namibian papers. The Club, at that time under the able leadership of Eckhard Waldschmidt, grew and all this combined professionalism culminated in the own permanent racetrack Gallina with Beerbarn, Clubhouse, Tower, Pits-Grandstand, Ablution-block...you name it!
All the years Bernd was pestering the Committee to hold a real International Moto Crossrace. He motivated his plans, got the necessary sponsorships together and in November the same year 1996 Namibia hostet the first "Inter-Series" which grew from strength to strengths over the last 9 years. Past heat-winners in Namibia were Albin Maurer (Austria), Kent Almar (Denmark), Boyd Karsmakers (Holland), Gunnar Schuster (Germany), Vitali Tonkow and Sergej Garin (both from Russia), Avo Leok from Estonia, the South African top riders Collin Dugmore, Ryan Hunt, Ian Topliss and Freddie Fourie and 3 times Open Namibian Champion Markus Volz from Germany. Other celebrities racing in Namibia were household names like Greg Fitch (England), Aigar Leok (Estonia), Marcus Alden (Sweden), Harry Näpflin and Patrick Kasper (both Switzerland), Michael Staufer (Austria), Carter Gurnee (USA), Daniel Siegl and Dennis Schröter (both Germany), Erwin Robins and Mart de Jong (both from the Netherlands) and not to forget Tyla Rattray and Grant Langston! Too many to mention them all!
Today the "Inter-Series" is the biggest MX event of it's kind on the African continent. A capable Team all make this possible! Don't ask for the time spent for this one, annually event!
