Another successful National for the Team

This past weekend saw our riders competing at the second Namibian National event held on the brand new ASTRA track. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Goldbeck Family for the superb track and facilities which they have made available to Namibian motocross.
Tommy had a fantastic weekend although with a touch of misfortune. In the first heat, after taking the hole-shot, he was unnecessarily taken out by another rider early in the heat which left him with a damaged radiator and forced him to pull off into the pits to have it repaired rather than to damage the bike even further.
This however spurred him on even more and in the second and third heat, he showed everyone that he is currently the fastest Namibian rider, which made the incident in the first heat even more uncalled for. In both these heats, Tommy was again up-front and did not waste any time opening a gap to his competitors.
His heats were flawless, consistent and well finished. In the third heat, after again taking the hole-shot, he was passed by International rider Ross Branch. What was inspirational was that Tommy was able to hold onto Ross’s pace for a few rounds proving that with a bit more work, Tommy can be right up there. He finished the 3rd heat and also the ‘King of the Dirt’ in second place. Even with no points for the first heat, Tommy still finished 3rd overall in the Open Class.
In the 65cc Class, Matthew had a mixed day. In the first two heats, the starts did not go to plan and he would have to fight his way up again. He never looked comfortable and smooth in either of these heats but was still able to secure 2nd place in the first heat and 3rd in the second heat.
Although a long way behind the leader in this class, he knew that he would have to at least finish the 3rd heat in second place to be able to hold on to 2nd place for this National. This he did, and although the track was by now exceptionally rough for these small bikes, he was able to show what he was capable of. He took the hole-shot and was quickly into his rhythm. He was passed soon after, but really put in a good effort to open a huge gap back to third place. With two 2nd places and a 3rd, Matthew finished the National in overall 2nd place.
The weekend was a successful one with a lot of positive points coming from it. The riders now have a few weeks to concentrate on intense training before competing at the AMU Southern Challenge in Pietersburg, South Africa, on the 12th of April. The third Namibian National will follow immediately afterwards on the 19th of April.
The Team is satisfied with the results from the weekend and would like to thank all the sponsors that make the Team what it is.
Thank you
The TEAM
