23.03.2009 2nd Championships-race in Okahandja - Preview

"Motocross Thrills" in Okahandja this Saturday

The Okahandja Moto Cross Club hosts the 2nd race of the Namibian Moto Cross Championships, under the able leadership of the Muller family. The official title of this event: "Moto Cross Thrills, live and on demand". The Muller family has already proven in 2008 that one can rely on their input. The well-prepared track with efficient infrastructure situated on the road towards Groß-Barmen, turned this piece of land into a worthy location for cham- pionship racing.
Björn Bierbrauer

In the children’s class, the MX65 Class we can expect a great duel between Michael Barlow and Matthew Nederlof., however, Michael will have to invest a lot to defend his title. It appears Jay-Em Tredoux has a subscription to the podium.
In the MX Lites Class (85cc) champion Mark Sternagel has to take a compulsary break as he fractured his arm last week. This leaves the way open for local hero Tristan Muller, who will have to grapple with Joshua Teixeira and Pauli Loots.
Ruhan Gous

In the mixed MX1 (Open) and MX2 (125cc) Class, the Xpert Security Class, sparks will fly as always. After his last race one can count Honda-rider Björn Bierbrauer to the favourites. And if Wise is spared from technical problems on his Kawasaki, he could be in for a surprise. One can also expect a spot on the podium for the reigning champion in the Open-Class, Tommy Gous, on his strong Yamaha. The Okahandja track could prove an advantage. Ronnie Adams can be reckoned with again since he shone in the previous race. Jaco Loots is the only one of the bunch still riding a 2-stroke bike, but can nevertheless be expected to deliver a good performance, which his 5th rank on his 250cc Suzuki, during the previous Wesbank King of the Dirt proved.

Frank Klosta paused for almost the whole of 2008 due to an injury but now he is back with a quick KTM. His 4th place in the King of the Dirt on Gallina is noteworthy. Henry O’Kennedy and Ruhan Gous will engage in their "private contest" as usual. Rudi Brand’s performance could have been much better if it hadn’t been for engine tuning problems. Jose Teixeira our long-time participant from Angola is, despite his age, a Top-10 rider. Tony Viljoen has improved enormously, putting him among the Top-10 as well. A highlight as always, the "Muller Entertainment King of the Dirt", the race which separates the men from the boys.

At the Gallina race the organiser proudly noted a full field of riders in the Clubmen’s Class. Torsten Schidlowski made a strong impression during that race and we are eager to see whether he can keep up this performance in Okahandja. Other favourites are Gundolf Lang, Wiehan Kohne and Billy Heigan, to name but a few, because in this class everyone can beat everyone.
The various Quad-Classes are very popular amongst the spectators. Like in previous years, the Quads-A-Class and B-Class start together but are assessed separately. In the "King's Class", the Quad-A-Class, we will observe the usual handlebar-banging between Michael Behnke on a Honda, and Jean Venter on a KTM.
Wolfgang Röhl on his Polaris also wants a piece of the cake and one can expect a podium spot for him. Fanie Steenkamp, Jaime Renecle on a CanAm, Ecki Spoerer and Eugene Slippers are strong contestants. For the highlight, the "Ardilla Mini Lodge King of the Quads" the organiser expects the participation of 15-20 riders. Thrills in Okahandja!
Charney Joubert

The Ladies-Quads-Class has a new poster child, namely 17-year old Charney Joubert. She made an excellent 3rd place in the AMU-Quads-Championships in South Africa, as the best Namibian, two weeks ago. In Okahandja she has to count on strong opposition by Mandy Huysamen and Cee-Anne Greyling. Maike Bochert, Celene Adams and Anneke Steenkamp should also not be underestimated. In the supporting programme we have the riders of the Quads-C-Class, the Clubmen’s Class, and the Mini-Quads for kids.
Parking will be available around the track and spectators can recline under the trees to watch the racing. Food and beverages are available. So don’t miss out on this event for the whole family: Moto Cross racing in Okahandja, on 28th of March. The main races start at 13:00 hours and after the prize-giving ceremony the Jägermeister Party hits off with DJ-Coco. Who says, Okahandja is boring?
