Bierbrauer wins Okahandja Challenge MX-Trophy
Windy it was in Okahandja and only a few spectators lined the track due to another major event which took place in the flower-town. The sport on display was however first class! The times when Bierbrauer dominated the races are over; on his quick Yamaha 250 two-stroke it was Tommy Gous who won all starts.
 Björn Bierbrauer
In the first heat Tommy only lead for two laps, in the second heat things were going smoother and he was able to stay ahead of Bierbrauer for four laps. In the King of the Dirt it seemed we were about to witness a surprise: Gous lead lap after lap but then in the sixth lap Bierbrauer assumed the lead again. This promises some dramatic races for the future! Another one who knew how to capture the spectators attention was Frank Klosta. Two 3rd places prove that he’s almost his old self again. Jaco Loots’ 3rd place in the first heat was a splendid achievement. One may not forget that this oukie rode in the 85cc Class only a year ago and has mastered the move to the MX1/MX2 class without difficulty.
Everyone who has made a name for himself met in the MX1/MX2 Class, the Xpert Security Class. Apart from the championship, these guys wanted to qualify for the upcoming AMU Africa-continental-championships, to be held on the 28th of June at the Gallina Moto Cross Park.
 Tommy Gous
Heat 1: the gate drops and Tommy Gous is the first to dash into the right-left combination bent. He is closely followed by Björn Bierbrauer on the four-stroke Honda, Jaco Loots on his two-stroke Suzuki and behind them there are Alex Howard, Frank Klosta on the KTM and Ronnie Adams on the fast Kawasaki. This group of riders makes up the leading pack. During the third lap Bierbrauer took the lead, chased now by Tommy Gous. During the fifth lap Henry O’Kennedy was good for a surprise when he passed Adams. In the seventh lap Frank Klosta established himself ahead of Alexander Howard. This was a heat exactly to the spectators liking. Bierbrauer won ahead of Gous and Jaco Loots.

Heat 2: The riders eye the starter to perceive the moment he would drop the leaver. There it goes and Tommy is up and away. Close behind are Bierbrauer, Loots, Klosta and Rudi Brand. At the end of the fourth lap Gous makes a mistake at the crossbeam, skids with too much speed over the berm and Bierbrauer passes him. In the ninth lap, Klosta gets past Loots after a persistent fight and the same goes for the young O’Kennedy, who leaves Adams behind him for the second time that day. Bierbrauer wins ahead of Gous and Klosta.

Moving on to the highlight of the day, the Muller Entertainment King of the Dirt race. The riders stamp the ground with their heavy boots to form their ideal rut, the 5-seconds board appears, nervously the guys play with their clutches, the gate drops and like an arrow, Gous whizzes towards the first bent. Bierbrauer first has to battle through a pile of riders made up of Klosta, Loots, Brand and Howard and at the end of the first lap he finds himself on 2nd place behind Gous. Adams is unleashed, in lap four Howard has to make way, then Adams chases after Brand. In the sixth lap Gous cannot withstand the pressure by Brierbrauer anymore and gives in. Adams fights with all he’s got, he is determined to beat Brand and finally in the second to last lap, he passes Brand! This was MX sport at its finest.

Even in the MX 65 Class the riders were keen on qualifying themselves for the AMU Championships. Matthew Nederlof achieved this with two impressive heat wins, ahead of his strongest opponent Michael Barlow. Jay-Em Tredoux completed the qualifying trio.

In the MX-Lights Class (former 85cc Class) local hero Tristan Muller from Okahandja won with a maximum number of points, ahead of an aggressive Pauli Loots and Joshua Teixeira. Together with Mark Sternagel, the reigning champions, the three before-mentioned riders will represent Namibia at the AMU.
Eleven participants were riding in the Clubmen’s Class. Jean-Pierre Hugo rode at an unbelievable speed, his dad gave hand signals to slow him down as his lap times would suggest that he would have to move up to the MX 2 Class. Hugo won with a major headstart, Francois Schoeman and Wiehan Kohne landed on second and third respectively. Pauli Loots, racing in two different categories, landed on an exceptional 5th place.
The Quads-Classes really rocked Okahandja! In the mixed Quads-A-and-B-Class Michael Behnke from Walvisbay was the unchallenged winner, followed by Jean Venter and Tertius Joubert. In the all-deciding Ardilla Mini Lodge King of the Quads it was Venter who won the holeshot, but had to make way for Behnke in the second lap. During the fourth lap B-Class rider Ecki Spoerer shoots past Venter. What an achievement!

Cee-Anne Greyling vs Celene Adams and Anneke Steenkamp
The girls in the Quads-Ladies-Class rode at an astounding speed. Cee-Anne Greyling won the first heat ahead of Anneke Steenkamp and Maike Bochert. In the second heat “wondergirl” Charney Joubert won despite a broken hand, ahead of Mandy Huysamen and Maike Bochert. The overall win went to Cee-Anne Greyling ahead of Maike Bochert and Anneke Steenkamp with the same number of points.
André Maree won the Quads-C-Class ahead of JayCee Le Roux and Dillon Skoppelitus.
One should really consider moving the Quads-Clubmen’s race to the morning, as it is not very interesting for the spectators to watch three riders turn their rounds.
A highly exciting racing day came to its end. At this point a thank you goes to the men of the Okahandja Moto Cross Club, to the women of the WMCC doing an excellent job in lap-scoring, as well as to the sponsors Muller Theron, Grobler Transport, and Lewcor Plant Hire. They all did their part in making this 3rd championship race a success.
