Snyman Transport-MX - Motocross season starts this coming Saturday
The Gallina Moto Cross Park, situated 15 km north, outside of Windhoek on the road towards Okahandja, will host this season's premier race of the 2010 WMCC Moto Cross championships. Snyman Transport generously sponsors the Windhoek Moto Cross Club (WMCC).
For weeks our Namibian MX-stars and Quad-specialists anticipated this event. Finally the season kicks off. The track on Gallina underwent a couple of changes and there will also be a change in procedure. In the morning the races for the kids and newcomers to the sport will be held and from 1 p.m. onwards the stars of the MX Lites Class (former 85cc Class), the combined MX1 and MX2 Class, the Quad-Ladies Class and the Quad-A Class will dominate the event. Actionpacked catergories is therefore guaranteed throughout the day and should be welcomed by the fans.
Unfortunately we have not received all entries of all the riders and know only a little about the new bikes we can expect to see. We know that Tommy Gous - our poster boy in the MX1-Class - will ride a new 450cc Yamaha, and it is also said that Frank Klosta will ride a brand new 450cc KTM in the MX1 Class. Rudi Brand, Tony Viljoen, Jose Teixeira and Jaco Loots will certainly try their luck in the MX1 too. The riders in the MX2 Class will ride together with these high calibre MX1 protagonists. Highflyer Björn Bierbrauer will lead this class. Animal Wise deserves all the good luck he can get after a season of crashes, engine problems and bad luck. Ruhan Gous had a really strong season; let's see whether he can can keep it up. Another one who got faster at the end of 2009 is Alexander Howard. We can expect excellent racing from him. Also part of the action are Tristan Muller, Pauli Loots, Mark Sternagel and Henry O'Kennedy.
In the MX Lites Class the guys cannot wait to get on the track! Here we have several riders who participate in two classes (also in the MX2 Class) including Mark Sternagel, Tristan Muller and Pauli Loots, and also the climbers from the 65cc Class Joshua Teixeira, Matthew Nederlof and of course Michael Barlow. 10 riders are expected in this class.
Among the 4-Wheeler aces of the Quad-A Class we have current champion Michael Behnke. With Stephan Smidt, Wolfgang Röhl, Gideon van Sittert, Leigh-Jean Skoppelitus und Gogo van Wyk the competition is not small. B-Class champion Ecki Spoerer had an exceptional season in 2009 – he is planning to stir up the A-Class. Another rider to watch out is Jaco Snyman. Sporadically we can also count on the participation of "South African Champion" from Walvisbay, Dirkie Baard.
The icing on the cake is as always the race of the Ladies-Quads. What started four years ago as a "powder puff" fun race, evolved into a real motor sport class. The previous Inter-Series in November 2009 showed that our ladies can beat the strongest South African female riders. Here one must mention Charney Joubert, the present champion, as well as Maike Bochert, Celene Adams, Cee-Anne Greyling and Melody Loots. The organiser expects a talented group of ladies in the Quad-C and Quad Clubmen's Classes. Here too we can expect a full field of riders.
We call on all Quad-owners (there are hundreds in the district of Windhoek) to participate in the freshman-races as well as the Powder-Puff competition (only for girls and young women).
After the prize-giving the notorious Jägermeister-Party takes place as always. Party-goers can dance to DJ CoCo's music, and choose from a wide variety of food and beverages which will be offered at the commentator's tower and in the beer barn. So don't forget, the first race of the season at the Gallina Moto Cross Park, on Saturday the 20th of March.
