Tafel Lager Battle of the Bands

For thirtyfour years Nambrew supported mx-racing in Namibia. For the past 9 years they have been main-sponsor of the annual Inter-Series, the biggest Moto Cross Series of it’s kind on the African continent! Now we have to part…Pepsi and Tafel Lager cannot identify anymore with Namibia’s X-Tremesport Number One! What a sad day!
Hurray!!! Tafel Lager is back and sponsers the night-entertainment on 4th of November at Gallina Moto Cross Park, with the offical name "Tafel Lager Battle of the Bands". Gallina will rock when the best musicians turn on their amplifiers! A great mix of different bands was chosen to partake.
Sense Unknown consists of Andre Joubert, Felix Rückert and Jean-Pierre Bruwer. They have all been playing in numerous other bands for the past few years. Andre played in bands like Swimming Pool Sundae and Quarter Mile, while Jean Pierre and Felix both came from the band Colony. Jean-Pierre and Andre met beginning of February 2006 to start a new kind of band with music that people will actually listen to. Sense Unknown is playing mostly only original songs with the occassional cover song.
Next in line to entertain the crowd is Dylan’s Jam Band. This cover band is well known in town and their songlist includes most popular cover songs from the 70’s and 80’s The band consists of Tony Viljoen, Sakkie van Niekerk, Johan Smith and Leon Marais.
The following band sells out every venue they play at, it’s Mojo Blues Electric Band. This band is a side project turned trendy blues band from Windhoek. Starting out as an acoustic duo, Pd Stoman and Thomas Bokemüller decided to augment their sound by adding a backing band in form of bassist Robert Key and drummer Dave Webster. They started out jamming at local venues and their fan-base grew with every performance! The latest addition to the Mojo line-up is harp/saxophonist Hue-De San…what’s blues without sax? All Mojo members are also activly involved in other bands as well.
PENILANE
PENILANE
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! It’s PENILANE! Cooler than a large Tafel Lager on a hot summer’s day, PENILANE ist the most original thing to come out of Namibia since, well, ever! The band has three members: Roy-Lee Kitt, Michael Ott and Christoph de Chavonnes Vrugt.
With influences ranging from old school rock to more contemporary music, PENILANE’s unique and exciting sound recaptures the spirit of rock and serves it up with an interesting and refreshing twist. The band touches on serious issues, while at the same time poking fun at society and conventional wisdom. With a current setlist of more than 20 songs and a powerful sound they punch out their brand of rock with vigour and attitude. They shared stages with Ras Sheehama and Gazza but also with South African headliners such as Johnny Clegg, PJ Powers or Parlotones, to name but a few.
PENILANE has won the rock category at the Namibian Music Awards 2006!
But that is not all at Gallina on 4th November: The day starts off at 11:00 a.m. with Air Namibia’s international motocross racing, with riders from 10 different nations. At 19:00 houres the Winston Pit-Bike Race gets started, at 20:00 the price-giving for the mx-heroes takes place. At 21:00 houres the famous Freestyle-X-Fighters Show will commence and at 21:30 houres the Tafel Lager Battle of the Bands guys will turn on their plenty-watt amplifiers to rock you till you drop!
