15.05.2006 WMCC Enduro Round 2 - Preview

Joker's Pizzaria & Sport Bar Enduro

On the 20th of May the 2nd Enduro race of the 2006 season will take place in the perimeter of the Western-Bypass. This race is being sponsored by the well known Joker's Pizzaria & Sport Bar. Collin Hart and Tony Viljoen partners of this enterprise, are both avid Endurists but Tony is also a talented Moto Cross rider. The award ceremony after the event, will also take place on the grounds of Joker's.

The terrain around the Western-Bypass is very well suited for such a motorsport event because of its geological diversity. There are gravel tracks, drawn-out passages which are excellent for high-speed racing, but also areas with deep sand, and in the west the hills reach up to the Khomashochland. The organiser is the "Enduro Working Groung" within the WMCC under the leadership of Magda de Haan. This group has put in a lot of effort in choosing the trail . According to Mrs. de Haan, there will most probably be 5 control points, where the riders either have to punch their "boarding pass" themselves, or they receive a stamp on their boarding pass, if the control point is manned. This will keep riders from taking short cuts. Since the event is open for all motorbike- and Quad-categories, there will be a so-called A-track, a track with a very high degree of difficulty, as well a B-track intended for amateurs. Both routes lead over a distance of 27 kilometres each.
In the Motorbike-class 1 the particularly favoured Ingo Waldschmidt will be part of the action. Ingo not only won the first race of the season two months ago on his own farm, but also proved his talent in the mountainous state of Lesotho, at the "Roof of Africa", which is one of the toughest off-road races in the world. Noteworthy is also his 3rd place at the AMU Enduro Africa-Championships two years ago.
Henner Rusch and Andreas Brendel are two more ambitious riders who are both keen on a podium spot. Whether Kai Hohmeier is going to participate is still not affirmed, but a big talent from the 80s has evinced interest: Gino Rossi from Swakopmund. Gino repeatedly won MX-Championships, Enduro-Championships, and is one of a handful of Namibian riders who have tried themselves at Speedway. Gino is regarded as a natural talent on the motorbike. After several years of abstinence from the racing sport he's ready for a comeback. He will surely be riding way up front!
In Motorbike-class 2, Luke Pennefather is the favourite, while in motorbike-class 3, Tony Viljoen holds this honour. Apart from the named riders, there will off course be some brave MX-riders, for example Ronnie Adams and Heiko Hennes, who enjoy participating in Offroad-racing. The organiser expects 25 motorcyclists on the whole.
The Quad-bikers won't be that much slower in this terrain than their colleagues on motorbikes. In the Quad-class 4 one should keep a lookout for Eugene Slippers, who was the champion in his class at the Waldschmidt-Enduro. In the Quad-class 5, Fanie Steenkamp is the top rider, but one must not forget his challengers Clinton Hilfiker, Jean Venter and Jan de Haan. Here we have at least 5 other tough guys who are keen on a podium spot. In the Quad- (or 4-Wheeler) classes the Enduro Working Group expects at least 35 participants, among which are some brave ladies, like Celine Adams, Melody Loots and Meike Borchert.
So, do not forget: Joker's Pizzeria & Sport Bar Enduro on the 20th of May at the Western Bypass. Information signs lead the way to the track. The bikes will start every other minute from 11:00 o'clock onwards.
