03.06.2007 Namibian Enduro Championship Round 3 - Preview

Enduro racing held at Tony Rust Race Track

With a very successful AMU Baja held, the Windhoek Motorcross Club Enduro Working Committee is hosting Leg 3 of the Namibian National Enduro Championship at the Tony Rust Race Track outside of Windhoek on Saturday, 9 June 2007. Racing starts 11:00 in the morning. As the Enduro and Rally takes place on the same day and at the same venue, the main sponsor of the combined event is Star Body Works.
The refuel area and pitts is at the Tony Rust Race Track and the riders will ride a section of the old Quad bike track in the middle of the Oval circuit, thus something to see for the spectators. The Enduro will start just after the last Rally car completed the Tony Rust rally stage. Then in the afternoon, the Rally cars will start their last stage again at Tony Rust just after the last Enduro bike finished.
More than 35 bikes can be expected for this event. Riders like Ingo Waldschmidt (KTM), Heiko Hennes (Yamaha), Andreas Brendel (KTM) and Luke Pennefather (KTM) already entered for the event. Hopefully Ingo will try to finish the first lap without any falls or incidents like he had with the AMU Baja.
Fanie Steenkamp (Yamaha) who had to withdraw after the first lap of the AMU Baja because of a previous injury to his wrist, will compete again. We hope that he will be able to finish the race this time without causing more damage to his wrist.
Rodney Davis (Yamaha) had a very bad experience at the AMU Baja. He lost his clicker card in lap one and that means he was disqualified. All the riders must make very sure that they keep these cards very safe and to hand the cards in after every lap.
After a spectacular achievement at the AMU Baja, the two Baard brothers from the west, Dirkie and Philip (both on Hondas) will definitely come and show us what they are worth and will keep the competition very strong between the quad riders. Another young quad rider, Jean Venter (Yamaha), is becoming more experienced with every race he participates in. It is very nice to have young blood who can come and give the older, experienced riders some competition.
Entrance to the Tony Rust Race Track will be free for this event and there will be food and drinks available during the day. Spectators will have a full racing program of bikes and cars throughout the day. After the event a combined prize giving for both the Enduro and Rally events will be held at the Tony Rust Clubhouse.
