07.04.2009 Lichtenstein Enduro - Results
The Windhoek Motor-Cross Club staged the second Motorcycle Enduro racing event for 2009. The event of 4 April was held at Farm Lichtenstein situated 35km outside of Windhoek on the Rehoboth road.
The race got underway with forty nine competitors in dry dusty conditions. Competitors would need to complete four laps of the thirty seven kilometres and the support classes three laps. Competitors started off with thirty second intervals as per the results from the previous race. A challenging track was laid out by the organisers and the author has not seen that many rocks in a long time. The route ran along a common path with some split sections for the national bikes while the quads and support classes shared the same route. The ladies quad class has now been recognised as a national class that resulted in the ladies also needing to complete four laps of the route in contrast with three laps prior to the classification.
Phillip van der Merwe, Dealer Principal of Honda Windhoek and main sponsor of the event was again happy with the Honda Windhoek team results taking the overall win in three of the six classes. This is surely a great way to showcase, test and develop our products. This event is probably the toughest on the Namibian circuit and in line with major Africa events. Our products proved their reliability by not only completing the race without any engine failure but also winning all major classes.
The open class was won by Henner Rusch, second was Heiko Hennes both on Honda CRF 450 X’s and Kai Hohmeier on a KTM in third.
The 200 class was won by Eckhard Waldschmidt KTM 250F, second was Therald Murch Honda CRF 250 X and Jörn Greiter KTM 200 in third.
The National Quad class was won by Micheal Behnke Honda TRX 450, Fanie Steenkamp Honda TRX 450 was second and Dennis Raines Yamaha in third.
The Ladies Quad class was won by Maike Bochert Suzuki, Second was Yana de Jesus Honda TRX 450 and Anneke Steenkamp Honda TRX 450 in third.
The Support bikes was won by Dirk Hohmeier CRF 230F second was Colin Wilken CRF 450 X and Eric Rösemann on a XR 400
The Support Quad class was won by Mark Johnston Yamaha, second was Phillip v/d Merwe Honda TRX 700 and Stefan Mans in third. Hein Venter needs mentioning for his afford and was unlucky not to achieve Results.
The next race will be on the 9th of May 2009 in Walvisbay.
