18.07.2006 News from Björn Bierbrauer from Germany
Hi Guys and Girls herewith my race report from Aichwald. I know it's a bit late, but I had a stressful week as I have to repair and prep my own bikes.
First of all I want to thank Suzuki International Europe for their support and a special thank you goes to Claus and Isabel Hahn for accommodating me and make me feel at home. Last but not least thank you, Mirko Bauer, my mechanic.
We arrived in Aichwald on Friday and it rained pretty hard. The pits were flooded within seconds and we battled to get the cars in to put up our camp. We all were dirty that evening, without riding as yet.

Saturday started off better and the weather was perfect. Hot, sunny and no clouds to be seen. In practice the track was very slippery due to the wet grass as the track is only used once a year. I made contact with the grass twice in free practice and only ended 25th some 20 seconds slower than Ken Roczen, my team mate. I was shocked about this and asked Collin to help me. We checked a few lines and than I relaxed and got ready for the Qualification heat. The Quali started bad as I was riding in 15th place for most of the time until I pulled into the box to get a new pair of goggles. Then I did one slow lap to check for the dry, fast lines that Ken took. He was riding in front of me. I then concentrated and improved my time by two seconds and ended 9th in my Qualification heat. Everyone was happy with that and we packed up and went home for a good nights sleep.

On Sunday morning the weather and track were perfect, not slippery anymore with awesome grip. In warm up I had the 5th fastest time. In the race, I had a good start, 8th and I held that position for about half the race, but than I fell back due to stupid mistakes because I am not experienced enough yet by choosing different lines as the track gets rougher and more difficult to ride. I ended in 15th position. I wasn’t happy with that result, even though everyone else was. Second race, a perfect start and I came back 3rd in lap one. I held this position until the third lap when Dominique Thury passed me. (Congratulation Dominique) I was able to hold this position for another 3 laps until Dennis Baudrexl came form behind and tried to overtake me on a small jump just behind a corner where the lines crossed in mid air. We made contact and we both crashed. This was very unfortunate because by now I had settled and wanted to take this result home. I could catch up a little bit but the time was running out and I only finished 17th. With this race I was really happy because I finally proved myself after a long time that I have the talent and speed to ride in the top five. I hope the next race I will be more fortunate and can walk away with a top ten finish. I think I can do that.
