07.11.2006 Press Release ZENNER RACING Team
The Namibian Inter Series is now behind our back and overall it was a successful two weekends for our riders. The track conditions were outstanding and the Windhoek Moto-Cross Club did an excellent job over the two weekends.

Open Class:

Tommy Gous (NAM, ZENNER Yamaha)
Tommy Gous (NAM, ZENNER Yamaha)
When the big boys race against each other, it always comes down to the start. Tommy Gous, on his 107 Yamaha, definitely did not have one of his better starts in the first heat and was caught behind a whole bunch of riders. To add to his problems, he got his line wrong going into a turn and ended up on the ground. Virtually last in the second lap, Tommy was still able to catch up to finish the first heat in 5th place.
The second heat’s start also did not go to plan and Tommy was again caught in mid pack. He got into his rhythm and slowly started knocking off positions to finish in 4th. He himself expected to perform a lot better and his determination showed in the ‘King of the Dirt’ heat.

The start was average at best and somewhere in mid-pack. Over the first jump and into the first sharp corner, a rider fell in front of Tommy and he had nowhere to go but to go fall as well. It took a while to re-start, and by then all the other riders were long gone. The race that followed must have been the best that Tommy ever had since competing on his Yamaha 450. From last position, he picked off rider after rider at tremendous pace, and before long, was in a comfortable second place. The leader was far ahead and Tommy settled in for a fantastic second place.
Tommy finished the weekend in second place in the Open Class as well as second in the ‘King of the Dirt’ and the only Namibian on the podium for this premier race. For the overall Namibian Inter Series points, Tommy compiled enough points to finish second in both the Open Class as well as the "King of the Dirt".

50cc Senior Class:

After the past weeks events with a lot focus on Matthew’s achievements in moto-cross, he wanted to make a point and show that he was the one to beat on his home track. A few riders from South Africa were expected to compete in the 50cc class, but unfortunately, only one rider arrived.
Matthew Nederlof (NAM, ZENNER Yamaha)

Practice went well and it looked like another day of maximum points for Matthew. In the first heat however, he jumped screw over a long table-top jump and landed next to the jump with the bike first landing on him, and then onto a fairly hard piece of ground. This caused the throttle to get jammed up against the front brake lever and he only had very limited throttle response. He still finished in a close second, in some pain and with an ailing motorbike.

The damage was easily repaired and in the second and third heat there was just no way anyone would catch up to him. He had the holeshot in both remaining heats and checked out to win those heats convincingly and taking 57 out maximum 60 points for the day.
With both weekends added together, he obviously won the overall for the 50cc class.
The ZENNER RACING Team would again like to thank the organizers and all the competitors for making this a memorable moto-cross weekend. A very big THANK YOU also to all the international competitors that made the effort to race in Namibia and we hope that you enjoyed your stay and that we may see you again in future.
