05.05.2006 Open letter from Mickael Pichon (FRA, KTM) on his retirement

Press Release from Mickael Pichon

Being off the track since the first GP, I feel it is time for me to step up and inform you all on my current situation and what my close future looks like.
Some friends have informed me about the stupid rumors floating around on Internet about my current health situation and also about my relationship with KTM. It is then necessary for me to explain myself on these subjects to first reestablish the true and also to cool down the deal.

I'm currently physically diminished due to a virus (mononucleosis) that is affecting my physical condition and prevent me to keep a regular physical activity in time. A strong antibiotics medication treatment just had no effect at all on the virus and it seems that the only solution for me to recover is to go through a long period of rest.
I then have to accept it and commit to stay home and rest against my own will for an undetermined period. It is obvious that such decision is affecting my momentum. I'm also especially disappointed for KTM who had put together a great effort and put a lot of hope in me.
I want to say that my relationship with KTM has always been great and I really want to express my gratitude to them especially for their support over the difficult past weeks. I?m particularly disappointed for Pit Beirer who had done an incredible job and provided a lot of efforts to supply me with fantastic equipment.
If my health condition does not improve within the coming weeks I will have to consider a lighter program. But in any case it is today making more sense for me to ends my GP career.
The coming weeks will be crucial and of course I will be keeping you updated also trough my personal website (
