Third World Championship title for Yves Demaria
The final race of the MX3 World Championship was held on the Italian ground of Faenza. The weather conditions were perfect for the race, and the crowd was very excited about this last chase to the Title. Experienced French rider Yves Demaria (FRA, Yamaha), who took the lead in the Championship Classification after the previous MX3 event in Switzerland, had a big chance to become World Champion after the first heat, and he did not miss it.
Although he did not win the first race, his advantage was big enough to secure the title. Finishing third in the opening moto, Demaria become the new MX3 World Champion. He already had two titles under his betl, one from 2004 and one from 2006.
Sven Breugelmans (BEL, KTM) was the fastest after the first start. Also Jan Zaremba (CZE, KTM) started very fast and he was behind Breugelmans. But Italian rider Manuel Monni (ITA, Yamaha) eventually moved up to the front. He had a little crash when he tried to pass Breugelmans, with the latter losing control of the bike for a while. The Belgian dropped down some positions, and Monni took the lead of the race. At the end of the first race Monni won, Zaremba was second, and Demaria won his title with the third place. Breugelmans finished fourth.
In the second race Italian Monni moved up to the lead of the pack after he had passed Breugelmans, again. Demaria was not satisfied with the his title, he also wanted to win the second race. But Monni was too fast and clinched the eventual victory and the overall. Demaria finished second overall and Jan Zaremba rounded off the podium with the third place in the last race of the season. Breugelmans was fifth overall and second in the World Championship Classification. Jussi Vehvilainen (FIN, Honda) was fourth in the race and he finished as the third best rider of the season.
